Castle Gate
Castle Gate is a one-tap arcade game. You are the keeper of the royal gate.
Open it for the allies. Keep it shut for the invaders. Get the timing wrong and
the castle falls.
Three roads converge on a single gate, and everyone arrives at their own pace.
A villager walks. A rider gallops. A convoy of wagons needs the gate held open
for all four carts. The royal messenger is worth six times the points and must
never be turned away. The herbalist inverts the whole rule: open at the last
second and her vials shatter, so you have to open early for her alone.
Turn an ally away and they bounce back down the road, shoving whoever is behind
them. That is how a single mistimed tap becomes a pile-up.
Controls
Tap, click or press space. That is the whole game.
Double tap to force the gate open in an emergency.
Hold-to-open is available in the settings if you prefer it.

Fair by design
If an ally and an invader reach the gate at the same instant, no gate state can
satisfy both. The game never punishes you for that. A scheduler keeps opposite
arrivals apart before they even spawn, and if one slips through anyway, the
second visitor steps aside, lets the other pass, and comes back. No life lost,
no combo broken. The normal rule stays intact: an ally alone at a closed gate
still costs you.
Accessibility
Separate music, effects and ambience volumes. Colourblind mode adds an
ally/enemy badge above every visitor, on top of the already distinct
silhouettes. High contrast, three text sizes, reduced motion, hold-to-open,
remappable action key.
Everything you see is drawn with canvas code and every sound is synthesised at
runtime with the Web Audio API. There is not a single image or audio file in
the build.
This is a first public release and I would genuinely like to know where it
loses you — which level felt unfair, whether the timing reads clearly, whether
it works on your phone. Comments are open.
